biblical prosperity principles - setting goals

Goal setting is integral to biblical prosperity principles. It is extremely important in every thing that we do, physically and spiritually, to set goals. As Christians we must always set our ultimate goal to be eternal life with Jesus Christ. Everything else should be subordinate to that goal.

As we have seen in articles Proper Perspective, Proper Objectives, and Faith, in all that is important in this life, our faith in Christ will be the most sustaining aspiration that we can have. We must first seek Christ in our hearts and in our minds. We know that wisdom is key in making any decision that we make. We know that wisdom can only come through the Word of God and that all biblical prosperity principles are written for us in The Holy Scripture. This leads us to our goal plan, our map to follow to realize success.

Before we begin the goal planning part of our biblical prosperity principles, remember this:

We live one day at a time. We set our goals for a future date. Before our goals are realized, we must live today for today. When we set forth on this journey we have a vision of a future day. Don't try to spend every moment of today thinking about a future day or you'll lose today's blessing. These biblical prosperity principles take time to develop. Just remember that our blessings are already ordained (Ephesians 1:3). Study the entire Epistle to the Ephesians at the Christian Success Institute.

Goal #1.) Above all else, in everything we do and say, in ever one of these biblical prosperity principles, a deep meaningful relationship with Christ is tantamount to any success or success training that we will ever hope for. Our first and most important goal is to live with Christ throughout eternity.

Goal #2.) Success in life, in our relationship with God and with others, depends on wisdom. Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

The only true source of Wisdom is God's Holy Word. Our second goal on our journey to understanding God's biblical prosperity principles and realizing success is to spend (to tithe)1/10th of everyday in studying God's Holy Word and in prayer. That equates to 2 hours and 24 minutes each day in study and prayer. This is the most important time that you will spend on your road to success. This doesn't mean one block of 144 minutes. Thirty minutes in the morning, a 15 minute mid morning break, 15 minutes at lunchtime, a 15 minute mid-afternoon break - you get the idea. You may want to spend an hour at a time. The important thing is to set a goal of 2 1/2 hrs per day in study and prayer and STICK to it. Every distraction in the world will try to interrupt you. Make this a habit and I guarantee you that you will realize a profound difference in your life.

Goal #3.) Decide upon a direction to travel. This is the most difficult step in understanding biblical prosperity principles that we will have to take. It is not set in stone, so don't worry about committing all of your energy to something that could change. Through prayer and meditation, you will hear the voice of God. The Holy Spirit talks to you every day of your life. Psalm 46:9-11 (NIV)

He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields [a] with fire.

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

You will be told the direction that God wants you to take. Always remember that God will direct you in the direction that will lead to your success, if you listen. If you decide to do what it is that you think is best first, or while you're waiting to recognize God's voice, He will wait. You will fail and He will wait. Listen first. It may not come within the first 1/2 hour of your asking. It may take 3 weeks. Keep looking but only commit to what you know God is saying.

I did tell you that this would be the most difficult step in implementing these biblical prosperity principles. The reason for the difficulty is not God. The difficulty is in your ability to hear Him. My advice is to concentrate on Goals #1 & #2 until you feel sure of goal #3. Once you feel that a direction has been revealed to you, the work begins.

Goal #4.) In developing your 4th goal remember this advice: Proverbs 3:1-10

1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,

2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.

3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. [a]

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;

10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

In setting goal #4, let's recap this section of learning the biblical prosperity principles. We are told never to forget the God's teaching and to keep His commandments in your heart (God's Moral Law). We must never let love and faithfulness leave us. We are to be bound to them and write them on our hearts. Doing this will win favor and a good name in God's eyes. This is where we begin the journey. Don't rely too heavily upon your own understanding, especially of the big picture. When we give God praise for where we have been and where we are going, when we concentrate on Him first, he'll make our path straight. He'll lead us into success, which is His will for us. No matter to what degree of success we find ourselves, never think it was because of what you have done. Give the credit to God. Never boast!

When we do these things, we are given health and nourishment. When we honor God with everything that we produce, then and only then will He fill our barns to overflowing and our vats with new wine.

Our 4th goal is to dedicate our efforts to what God has called us. When we have prayed about direction and have an indication of where we're going, we need to put every effort forward to achieve out goal. To be successful we must realize that nothing comes by accident. Success comes when we exhaust every effort. When you choose the direction, don't quit when success doesn't immediately come. Good things come to those who wait on the Lord. Don jump from one thing to another. Work hard and diligently to achieve your goals.
